A Masterful Performance
I came in expecting a trip down memory lane as a fan since the 1970s. What I got was a thoughtful blend of old and new, delivered by a pitch-perfect Oh, Mary! backed by a studio-caliber band. The band's delivery was very tight after six months on the road together. The sellout audience, compared to concerts even six months ago, was happy to be crowded together, 110% invested, and Jackson recognized it. The set was spare, lighting subdued but effective, no video, and a superb mix. Just like in the 1970s, that made the show about the music and the audience's relationship with the artist and his story. A performance I'll remember for a long time.
